I've got a Femco 26 gal. trailer sprayer that I tow behind my 1510 Ford and I discovered that it is leaking right around where the tank bolts to the trailer. It looks like there a small crack there that is letting my spray solution escape. After thinking about it, I arrived at the idea to take the tank off the trailer and use some JB Weld on the outside of the tank between it and the trailer to seal the leak. I figured that doing it from the inside might not be the best thing since it will be coming in contact with various chemicals. Just wondering if that sounds like it will work or is there a better way to do it? I'll probably also place some sort of rubber type washer between the tank and the trailer when I reassemble it.

Thanks,

Mike

That would work, for a while. The problem will be that the JB Weld isn’t going to permanently stick to the HDPE. I’m guessing that location is subject to a lot of vibration and shock, which is why it cracked there. The JB Weld is going to get vibrated loose at some point, though a soft rubber washer would help. A good epoxy would work better. That’s basically what JB Weld is, but it has fillers in it as well. You don’t need those fillers in this case. All that said, if you could find a place that does plastic welding, either ultrasonic or extrusion would work, that would be the best way to fix it.

JB Weld is also not flexable. I would use a two part urathane bumper repair kit. It looks like Epoxy, but is usually black in color. Because it's made for urathane bumpers it flexes a little, but also exspandes with the parent material. You can get this at an auto parts store. If the crack could use some re-enfocement. Get the 5 minute set kit. The slower set will allow you to add some fiberglass cloth to make a better repair.
