lean to behind pole barn

Considering my options for adding a sloped roof off the back side of my pole parn. Its 24' deep and the roofed area would cover 16' out. I can do free standing or attached assumimg the exisitng structure would support it. The end truss is attached to the posts inside the bldg as you can see from the picture. Im thinking this may not be enough support if i were to attach a ledger board on the outside of the bldg?? Also i would like to go bigger than 16' out but a retaining wall curves around the backside of the barn and is in the way of what would allow me another 4' for 20' total. I could either move some of the rocks or not make it 24' deep but that might make it look a bit odd. What do you think?

Why a lean to? Why not just continue on with the current roof line? I'd say make it as big as you want. If you have to move or redo some retaining wall, so be it. You don't want to be standing in your 'new' addition and the first thought that comes to mind is, jees, I wish this was bigger. Anyway, good luck with your project.

What would the roof pitch be for 20' out?

Do you have to consider snow load?

I agree to skip the Lean To and look into just extending the barn itself.

I would have said move the rocks and build a lean too. However, it is tough to get a water tight seal where the lean too roof would meet the metal siding.
