Today after putting another 4.5 hours on my new M9000, I have decided the one thing that is missing is Hydro. I have the hydraulic shuttle, but for precision work, it just doesn't compare to hydro operations in my opinion. I have quite a few hours on a hydro. I read a lot of the TBN discussion on hydro/no hydro.
I guess I believe a really experienced and good operator can get close, but they will be flailing to keep up with a hydro doing quick precise work. I would get the hydraulic shuttle again. It is very smooth and it takes focus for me to match its performance with the clutch. When I was shopping for a tractor, I almost bought smaller so I could get a hydro. Maybe someday they will make them for big tractors. I would trade in a minute.
I have been mowing and plucking out cedars from my oaks. The precision comes around my oaks. With the hydro, I can grab a cedar right beside an oak no problem. I can with the shuttle, but it just takes longer. Also the speed range is narrower. So you have to decide whether you want to grab another gear or not. You always have to be ready to grab the clutch incase you miss. Backing the shredder up to and in between trees, same thing. Working the throttle up and down with you foot helps, but then it changes the loader cycle time and engine power. Not with a hydro, you just use one RPM setting and have all your speeds forward and backward, with hydro brakinging in between.
Oh well, guess you can tell I like a hydro.
The other interesting thing I ran into a few times today was the differential lock. Yep had those wheels spinning.... Had FEL load, left hand on steering, right hand on joy stick, right foot on throttle, wheels spun, my foot wasn't long enough to reach the diff lock (on same side as throttle)! How you do that?
I know you are suppose to press it before the wheels spin. could shove the throttle in and grab the joy stick.... back and forth, back and forth.
Nice tractor, I am loving it.
