Finally completed this project and wanted to share my results with the community!

I love using my tractor and since I work a normal day job 8-5 I found myself only being able to complete chores around the house at night. I quickly found them when using the bucket the factory headlights become useless. I was inspired by another thread on here to add lights to my ROPS using magnets.

I first started by running a wire from my battery to the ROPS. I debated whether or not to run the wire on the outside of the ROPS but decided that running it on the inside would make for a quicker install. I did have to drill holes in the ROPS and I realize that this could jeopardize its structural strength but since my land is completely flat, the event of a roll over should be pretty null. I removed the ROPS, cut a grove in the base and then ran the wire up to the top. Once the wires were ran through the ROPS I used these nifty little plugs made by CrazyEve which can be found on Amazon: Amazon.com: CrazyEve 5 Sets 2 Pin Car Waterproof Electrical Connector Plug with Wire Electrical Cable Connector Plug: Automotive

The plugs made install a breeze and will allow me to remove the lights in the event that they fail and need to be replaced or if I want to use my LED light bar instead or switch them to another vehicle. I soldered all connections and then used shrink tubing and wire loom to waterproof the connections. The plugs are sturdy and make a solid connection, while still able to remove quickly if necessary.

I debated and debated on which lights to get and pulled the trigger on these: Amazon.com: Signstek 2*27W Flood Light Headlight Work Light Lamp off Road High Power ATV Jeep 4x4 Tractor Truck Light Fog Driving Bar Rree Truck SUV Car Waterproof Dustproof Shockproof: Automotive
They are 27W LED flood lights with 9 LEDS. They are incredibly bright. There are so many choices when it comes to lights and I read countless reviews. Originally I wanted to go with a light bar but I wanted the ability to move the lights in the direction of my work site. I purchased four of these with the intentions to have 2 facing forward and 2 facing the rear.

Using the idea of another member on here, I decided that mounting these with magents would be ideal. No drilling, and I can move them anyway I want. I started with the larger mount as shown in the picture. When using these, I was not able to pull the lights off very easily but they were wider than my ROPS and when I would catch a branch they would easily slide off. I searched and found these Neodymium Round Base Magnets made by CMS magnetics CMS Magnetics(R) 112 LBS Holding Power 1.57" Neodymium Round Base Magnet w/ Countersunk Hole - 1 Ct.: Lift Magnets: Amazon.com: Industrial & Scientific

Using a few spare washers and small flat head screws I was able to connect the mounts to the magnets. These magnets are half the size and probably three times as powerful as the larger magnets I was using. It is extremely hard to pull or even slide the lights when they are mounted to the ROPS. My pasture is very bumpy and the lights fell off using the larger magnets but with the CMS magents they dont even budge. They are also the perfect fit on the ROPS.

The switch I used is a Marine Rocker switch made by Iztoss Amazon.com : Iztoss 2A 12V 1A 24V ON-OFF 3pins Rocker Switch Panel Auto/Marine Boat RV with Jumper Wire and 4 Switches Housing holder (Multi Color) : Sports & Outdoors
This switch is made of a durable hard plastic and has an indicator light for on/off and almost looks factory on my NH.

Nice! You also followed the unwritten rule of posting pictures, looking good.

Nice. LEDs are starting to come way down in price.

Very nice and clean installation. That mounting position didn't work for me. Lights mounted behind me created way too much reflection - especially when I turned my head - because I wear glasses.

You Are right about that. Not really any better place to mount them yet. I am considering putting them on the sides of the tower brace and see it that helps.

I have the exact same magnets, and plan on doing the same thing on my Kubota.... cool to see it done in similar fashion, thanks for reminding me I need to finish the project!

Neat job. Great write up. I like how clean the wiring is. Thinking of doing the same but I'm struggling with paying more for the magnets than the lights.

mount the leds at the front of the bucket arms on the side so they face somewhat downwards. that way they are not behind you, they face the work and when the bucket is up they still light the ground in front so you can see where you are going. PS... never a good idea to drive with a loaded bucket high anyway!!!

These are the magnets you want
Magnetic Round Bases | CMS Magnetics

$3.24 apiece and shipping is relatively reasonable. Cheaper than amazon.

Well for the individual magnet they may have been cheaper :)

BUT since they were so inexpensive I ordered 10 w/ the 1/4-20 stud, and just had to also toss in a 405 LB Holding Power Neodymium Cup Magnet 2.95" Magnetic Round Base for another $27. Then I had to order a flat head bolt for the big magnet, so I ended up buying 50 bolts on ebay. And I'll probably buy several more of the 405 LB Holding Power Neodymium Cup Magnet 2.95" Magnetic Round Base. (those things are POWERFUL).

mission creep.

I have thought about moving them to the front or even adding a light bar to the grill protection. Only problem with this is I use the FEL quite a bit to dump limbs in the fire pit and the lights would get damaged. I really only have a problem with glare of the lights when I am wearing safety glasses and looking backwards. Otherwise they work great on the ROPS as I am able to angle them anyway I want since they are mounted using the magnets.

I cannot believe how much stronger the Neodymium magnet is compared to the traditional magents. I have been using mine for the past couple of weeks and they havent budget. It actually takes both of my hands to even get them to slide to a different position on the ROPS . I use my tractor to cut grass and my field is quite bumpy and I even go under low branches that contact the lights and they still hold strong. I am definitely going to place another order.

I am interest in the 405 Lb magnet that you purchased. Would you please provide a link? I need something to drag over the top of my burn put to locate screws and nails that the previous owners so kindly left.

Its amazing how a simple search can get you almost twice the product or more on ebay or amazon (usually from china) for the price one would cost at the hardware store (which is also made in china).

Don't mind me. Just following this thread. I am going to want to add work lights to my Boomer 24 this summer in anticipation of snow plowing in the dark winter months.

image.jpegI added light bars on my Ford because the ROPS had a natural place for them and neither bothers the operator. Those you got look handy for a lot uses. I think I might get some just in case.

wow great install with the light bar! I have a 22in sitting on my shelf waiting to be installed somewhere.

Lights are still holding strong on mine using the CMS magnets. They stay on over rough terrain and against trees brushing against them.

I also picked up the 405lb magnet recommended by Newbury above. I have been using it to pickup screws in my burn pile. I have an extra pole and some gopro mounts I plan to make a holder for it. Definitely picks up anything metal with a quick swipe above the ground.

Got bored this weekend and put together a little device for the 405lb neo magnet from CMS . This little guy works insanely well to pick up the metal in my burn pile. I am thinking it would also be good to hang up a shop light in the barn when I winterize the boat this summer. Part #MCHN-75

Most of my lighting on my CUT is mounted using magnets.
Advantage is in re positioning for maximum results without drilling holes.
Also if snagged you simply re attach without damage, =win win.

This is a great idea as I broke off my old bases three times in the woods!.

Just purchased two Rare Earth magnets on Amazon: Manic Magnets 75 Lbs Pull Force (2 Pack), 1.26"Outside Diameter, CounterSunk Hole for #10 Bolt Size, Rare Earth Neodymium

And a 36W 8" light bar. I was happy with the 18 I had but no reason not to go bigger and it has end mounts instead of one center mount. 36w LED Work Light Bar 12v Flood

That magnet place looks great! Neodymium Disc Magnets with Countersunk Hole | CMS Magnetics
