Left foot lever

I inherited a John Deere 2040 (80s model) and let someone use it. Now the hydraulics will no longer work for the aftermarket installed front-end loader and the three point hitch. There is a foot petal and lever below the seat on the left side that I was always told not to step on as a kid Does this somehow release the hydraulic pressure or fluid? Sorry...looked for a manual online put I could not find one so I am asking. Thx ps: Does anyone have a pdf of the owners manual or know where I could purchase on on-line?

The left pedal sounds like a rear differential lock to me, I have no knowledge of your tractor, but in general that is usually where differential lock is located on any tractor I have ever owned. and as for the hydraulic problem it could be a lot of things. the first thing I would check is all hydraulic levers are centered. you may have remotes, and sometimes they have a locking detent, this could be problem, as your hydraulic system is opening the relief valve. You might want to start a new thread with 2040 in the heading and most likely to get replys from owners of 2040's. We tend to scan the headings and not look deeper...just a thought.

I would tend to agree with kOua that it is likely a differential lock. My father in-law has a 1983 - 2040 and sounds like yours so I will ask him if you don't get some answers in the next couple of days.

Its a good stout tractor and depending on your use and need it should serve you well.

Thanks to both!!! That makes sense. I now remember Dad saying this... and that is what we used to lock both wheel for greater traction (unequal torque but equal rotation). That should have no affect on my hydraulics. I will create the new post. Thanks again! God Bless.
