left wing on 1517 batwing won\'t drop?!?

Was trying to get some time to play with my 1517 batwing I just got yesterday.. ( ran into some problems with 1 of my 2 remotes on my tractor.. but that is inthe ford forum.. ).. anyway.. I can get the right wing to lift or drop nicely.. but the left seems stuck up. I undid the manual safety latch so that isn't it. Any ideas???

Got the wing down. 1st 4" of it were rusted. Took greasing the mid driveline zerk, loading it up with pb blaster... putting a little tension on it, and then tapping with a hammer... popped loose real easy..

What size tractor are you pulling that with? I am looking at trying a light duty batwing to mow around this airport. Don't know if a 4720 can handle over 10 ft. The grass will only be cut 2 or 3 inches at the most.

Re: left wing on 1517 batwing won\'t drop?!?

I'm using a NH 7610s. Havn't cut with the 15' mower yet.. but everyone i talk to says the 7610s will pull it. It's about 90-95 eng hp.. so guess 88 pto hp..

I've been using a 3pt 10' mower and the tractor doesn't even know it is spinning the blades...

Re: left wing on 1517 batwing won\'t drop?!?

I would have to look it up, but I believe a 4720 is rated for 8' shredder. According to the JD website it says a MX-8 is the largest mower. I wanted ot run a batwing on my 4720 also and found out that the mower weighs more than the tractor! The HP is not the factor, it is a weight thing. I bought a JD HX-15 along with a JD 5525 to satisfy my need for a batwing.

( Soundguy, You have plenty of tractor to pull it. We have a 15 ft M&W batwing running behind a 93 HP MF and sometime a 85 HP JD. For us the thing to watch for is the cutter is so heavy, it will push the tractor on downgrades and it can get hairy when the field is a little wet--Ken Sweet)I stay off the wet fields with my Case 2096 108hp that I pull my batwing with. Weighing in at about 8 tons, it will do a lot of damage. As long as I remember to have the front end engaged, the mower does not much push the tractor around.

Getting back to the original hp question, you should have plenty for most situations. If you get into any conditions that seem to load the engine then don't take such a big bite and/or reduce your ground speed which you usually want to do anyway. You may also want to have your radiator and air intake service up to date to keep the temps normal.
