A friend of mine up north sent me this link.I had to read it a couple times to figure out. Dont understand if it was ona farm how because of the type of machine it wouldnt be classified as a farm accident.?????
And I assume he was in the cab and didnt have seat belt on.
Man hurt in backhoe accident - citizen.com: Laconia: accident, laconia, injury,
Sorta related , A month ago here on the" farm', I was driving slow , on the tractor and lost concentrationa dn hit a tree . The loader absorbed the inpact, but I was amazed just how much force it had. I slid forward into the dash.No injurys but was surprised at the force..

Some backhoe's booms can do close 90 degree left or right, and I could see a foot getting snag...maybe higher foot guard might be in oder..muddy boot or dirty platform which cause the foot to slip.

If the operator was using a tractor with a 3-point backhoe attachment, it was probably not equipped with a cab. Since the report stated that he was moving in his seat and his foot slid, three distinct possibilities seem to be concurrent with the cause or causes. One is the lack of utilizing body restraint, such as a seat belt. Another is mud or dirt that accumulated on his boots, due to him getting on and off the equipment. Another is the angle of the incline that he was working, such as a steep incline. Hopefully, he will regain his former function-ability after rehab.

Several years ago local farmer was killed using his 3pt hitch backhoe inside his barn. The 3pt hitch had no down pressure and the backhoe floated up and down freely on the 3pt hitch. The backhoe had stablizers arms to help support the backhoe in digging, but there was nothing to prevent the backhoe from rising up when the boom was pushed down. The farmer was cleaning out manure in a stall that had a loft above it. There was very little clearance for the operator and he had to crouch down to clear the loft. It appeared that he pushed the boom down which caused the 3pt to raise and push his body against the loft above and at the same time push the boom lever down forcing the boom to raise even further crushing him between the backhoe levers and the loft above. For all of those that have 3pt backhoes please take note.

Another reason to have a good ROPS if you can't fit the rig in with the ROPS on the machine you have the wrong machine for the job

cant count the times i have been digging with my bh and got a foot touched by the boom. compact tractor and i am anything but compact at 6-2 210, really have to watch every second while that motor is runnin

I could see how that could happen getting on and off a bh its easy to bump a lever too or if you slip its the first place you grab. As a result i now shutoff the machine when getting on and off and use a seatbelt while operating.

The BH90 on my tractor will swing 90. There are warning stickers to be careful not to hit the outriggers. I am careful to watch my big feet when swinging the back around. I have had it touch my feet several times.
