(B2620, had BX22) Simplicity Legacy w/48" mmm
I have been looking at JD mowers to replace my aging Legacy. (I have kind of a love/hate relationship with the full width roller on my rough land). Yesterday I went to see about one, and all the JD dealers were closed around here, but the Simplicity place was open so I went in for a lookabout. Both the Legacy XL, and the Prestige have changes over my older Legacy that I really like, and the price is less than green. I'm looking for any input on both of these tractors including any snowblowing experience.

Chuck,

Are you following me around? I was at Still's trying to get some saw chains for the storm of the century prep....What a waste of time and effort, thanks WMUR weather slobs.

While I was there, they had tags on the Simplicitys riders on the floor. I have to admit the conquest was calling to me....

I have always said that you really can't trust the weather station in Manchvegas until 7:00 on Friday night. You have to get the tourists through the toll gate on 93, and past the liquor store before you tell them the truth. The foot of powder snow they want can turn to freezing rain after that.

My old Simplicity still runs fine with only 700 hours on it, but I have an urge for a new one. It will be a Simplicity or JD just because I like both of their material collection systems, and I use that a lot some times of the year. Naturally there are a couple of normal wear items that could be addressed, but I've run Simplicities here since 1988, and both have been good.

In the price range your looking at. JD is a lot of plastic. Have you been to greenlands in concord?

I would NOT consider anything less than a 2305 or new 1000 series sub compact if going green. We have a 2010 Legacy XL Kawasaki powered 4x4 amd my country nieghbor wants to trade his 2011 X700 JD for it after using it once. He says our Legacy just feels more solid than his, and is much easier to change attachments and fits more things.
The guy we bought our last 4040 Simplicity(a 1972 model) from 2 yrs ago replaced it with a 500 series JD. The calls started this winter for us to sell it back to him as he has trouble with his plastic cracking on his JD in winter, so far he's offering $1000 more than we paid him for it.
I like the versatility of the Legacy over the Prestige, but if your just mowing and blowing snow either would work. Now if you move dirt around, till gardens, do landscape work or pull things like broken down trucks or stuck in the mud equipment the Legacy XL 4x4 is the clear choice IMO

I have a 07 Deere X744 AWS with a 24hp Yanmar Diesel that just rolled over 900 hrs. Have had no issues with the hood cracking on my X744. Heck, I have had no issues at all with my X744 Deere to be quite honest.
Thus said, Simplicity has a heck of a tractor in the new Legacy Series, and they do a great job cutting grass.
In fact I do own an Agco Allis 1614H 14hp kohler Lawn tractor( Simplicity built) and an AGCO 1920H( repainted Simplicity Sunstar) Both have been great mowers, but getting parts for them is starting to be a pain in the butt.
I will agree that there are certain aspects of the Simplicity Legacy that I really like, Front drive shaft etc, but Parts and Dealer suport has scared me off from buying another Simplicity, at least in my area.

HI, my first simplicity was a 717 with the optional two speed rear end. Gave to my son who still uses it for an acre of grass. Does he get the looks from people amazed at how great his lawn looks.
My second simpolicty was a 6111 which I tried my best to destroy grooming trails through the woods, ened up giving it to my other son for rough use on his shore line.
I still own a 7112 which is currently being worked on for routine maintenence. We use the 7112 for 2 acres of yard with a lot of trees (cabin) where there is no dealer or repair close by. My local service guy laughed at the fact that he has not deen this unit since he sold my my new one. My newest is an 07 Prestege. Great unit, comfortable, fast, and DEPENDABLE. Like all of my simplicitys.
I had the oppurtunity to buy my first Deere, an 88 165 hydro from an in law who was having trouble with it. I was entertained at first doing the basics. It has the FB 460 which is good, but Im learning about the K46 issue. Im commited to see this through, so I will pull the rear end and try to rebuild is lieu of a K66 kit. So far, until I get the deere running to my standard which is simplicity, I will hold off an an overall impression of the deere.
