Well, it turned out that I had insurance on the device, but that insurance only covers if the device is broke and I send it back. Insurance does not cover if the device is lost (what are the odds that a elderly person will break the device as compared to losing it?).
I talked with the company and offered to meet them in the middle to replace the device ad stay with them as a customer, they said no, they want their $500.
Informed them that I would take this further due to the fact that my signature isn't listed anywhere, and they don't have the original contract (which is why I couldn't find anything on my end).
Contacted the Pennsylvania State Attorney's office, filing a complaint.
Contacted the BBB (this company has 139 negative complaints in the last 3 years) filing a complaint with them as well. General online reviews are basically the same, biggest complaint is what they charge and billing issues.
Contacted a lawyer (waiting for return phone call) to see if I have to pound sand or if this is worth looking at.
Contacted local news station to where the company is located (although the CEO lives in California and it seems that the PA address may be a "shell" office) and waiting to hear back if they're interested or not.
Ultimately, if this were to happen to any elderly person, I really do feel that this business practice is unfair and unscrupulous.
Perhaps an act in futility, but at least I tried.
And yes, I should of done my homework PRIOR to buying this service from this company, but being that my father is close to 500 miles away and time was a concern, I did not do my homework which I'm kicking myself for.
