For any of you dads with 6-12 year old daughters, Lego finally released a line of toys designed for young girls. Its called Lego Friends. My daughter had started asking me to buy her legos about 6 months ago and Santa finally brought her the largest girl themed set Lego had at the time and she loved it. So with all the clearance sales we bought a lot more lego sets but they were the city and town, kingdom and star wars sets. Anything she thought was fun but they were all geared towards boys. January 2nd Lego released the Friends line and now my daughter is really happy. We spent the last couple hours putting together one of the sets and she is playing non stop with the little figures now. It is a great line of toys for dads and their daughters (or grandpas and granddaughters) to bond if they need help bonding or just to play together. Guys like building, girls like role playing. Lego Friends met both mine and my daughters favorite aspect of toys :)

So for any of you dads out there you may want to look into these sets. They really are fun for everyone

Leggo, my kids are hooked two boys 8-10 I think we have all the star wars, Halo, power miner, spinjitsu, I think I put the president of the companies kids through college. Though I gotta say what they have know is way better than what I had as a kid, they don't even use my old leggo 3 colors and 4 different block sizes, guess you had to use your imagination more. My name and avatar comes from the mineral eating rock monster from the power miners set. My eight year old was with me when I signed up:laughing:I'm sure this is just the beginning for you. Leggo On!

I never played with legos as a kid. I used actual lumber (one advantage of having a dad who owned a construction company, always nails, lumber and tools handy. I built my first fort when I was 7. Built it by myself so it didn't have a roof but i did start digging the moat till I realized it was way too much work.

I have been enjoying the legos with my daughter. Its fun and I hope they keep adding new sets to the Lego Friends line as their well worth the money in my opinion :)

Hahaha!!!! I can't believe the coincidence of you posting this, I have quite a thread going on Facebook of these two yahoo COLLEGE professors in my backyard. Proud? Not so much.

Gee, I hope you have not scarred your poor girls for life!:D:D:D

I heard about them. I find it sad. Instead of being happy a company geared mainly towards boy toys invested a lot of time and money into research and developing a line specifically for girls to play and learn more about building they have to use it as an excuse to push their agenda. They should be happy, for years legos women were short and stocky. Heck, they still are in the boys series.

What I also noticed was the lego collectors were not happy with this new line of figures because they were upset the figures no longer were interchangeable. They were happy with the new color of blocks but mad the figures couldn't interchange parts with the original lego figures.

All I know is my daughter is happy and these people complaining should step back and look at things without their agendas.

We got a set too for our little one, came with a pink storage box too. She really does love building with them.

I guess it was just this past year that the Grapevine Mills Outlet Mall added a Lego Land. I don't even know what that is, but from the number of people we've seen going in there, it must be popular.

I think it was about the same that they added the Sea Life Aquarium, and we haven't seen nearly as many people going in there. Of course we've been to a number of aquariums around the country, so yesterday we thought we'd see what the Sea Life Aquarium was like. However, when we saw the $29 per person ticket price, we decided we didn't really need to see their aquarium.

My two kids (one of each) loved Lego. It was a valuable toy, and we spent many hours building weird and wonderful things together. I'm sure it helped my son decide to pursue mechanical engineering, and my daughter - while not an engineer - doesn't even break a sweat assembling Ikea furniture. ;)

Nope, I have no idea what goes on in Lego Land at the Mall, and until they put that in there, I'd forgotten what Legos were, or at least what Lego bricks were. I had no idea it had grown the way it has. I reckon they're a step up from the Tinker Toys and Lincoln Logs I grew up with.

I grew up playing with Legos and Lincoln Logs. Best toys ever. Erector sets were not really around in the stores and were too expensive.

The problem with today's Legos is that they are kits to build a single something. With the kits I had you could build all sorts of things. The new kits are very nice but they limit imagination.

My girls like Legos and we have quite a few of the Harry Potter kits. Many of the other kits just are not for them. These new kits for girls would work for one of the girls.

The two professors need to get a life based on reality not their fantasy. One of my kids would likely LOVE these new Lego kits because it is girly. Our other kid would not go near the kit with a 20 foot pole because it IS girly. :D

We finally were able to visit a Lego store in Downtown Disney last trip. WOW. I was J E A L O U S! These kids are spoiled now a days. They had so many different kits but you could also buy pieces in bulk. They had different sized containers at various prices and bulk dispensers on the wall. You could pick as many pieces as you wanted as long as it fit into the container.

JEALOUS I was. :D If I was a kid, I would have spent quite a bit of time placing the pieces just so in the container to maximize my dollar.:laughing::laughing:

There is also some sort of point system where you earn so many points when you buy the kits and I guess you can spend those points to get "free" kits. There was a LONG line of kids and parents doing something with the points.

Our 2 year old daughter likes to play with Legos (supervised of course). She drives the vehicles I make around and makes engine noises. She also puts her dolls/people from other sets in/on them and runs them around.
She will probably end up with one of those sets in the not too distant future.

When I make a Lego car, plane, ship, etc that has an engine, I too drive it around and make engine noises.:D

Is that the new Lego Land theme park in central Florida or a Lego store? I noticed when we were in the Lego store in Downtown Disney(DTD) that a lot of the employees were young.

At the DTD store they have a huge knight and dragon made out of Lego blocks. I should have taken a photo. The "statues" have to be a 10-15 feet tall. :D
