Hi Just wondering if anyone can help?

I need to pull the head of my tractor engine but i don't have a manual, i have the parts book but it has no engine info.
Does anyone have experience removing the head?
Has anyone else seen a head failure on this engine?
Can anyone confirm that the engine is indeed a copy of an Isusu "L" series engine?

Any help much appreciated.

I probably have a head gasket for this engine, but no manual. The NJ385 is totally different from Yangdong Jaingsu Jaingdong, or Laidong designs. I have no manuals. This basic engine is still used in the Mahindra 2525, Mahindra bought the Jaingling tractor factory several years ago. When they did, all the independent imports stopped.

Out of interest, what has failed?

I've got a newer Mahindra 2525 version of the Lenar in the UK, but I think the engine is the same. No engine parts list in my parts book either, so thanks also to Sweden-Art for the link to the engine parts list.

I've only clocked up 35 hours on it, but there have been two faults.

At +/- 16 hrs the starter safety interlock switch on the gear change column went high resistance causing a relay to tremble, which in turn caused the main starter motor solenoid to cut in and out whilst trying to start.

At 32 hrs the injector needle in one fuel injector started sticking causing fuel to drip into the cylinder. The engine started to make a really loud knocking noise which I initially thought was bearing or con-rod related.
After cracking open each fuel pipe in turn, I identified the problem cylinder and discovered that by swapping round the injectors, the noise moved to a different cylinder. My dealer was great and arranged for a replacement injector to be sent out. This took a few days, so whilst waiting I stripped down the faulty injector and found that the bore in which the needle moves was badly scored, causing the needle to stick. I suspect some swarf from production must have been in the fuel system somewhere and found it way into the nozzle. After some careful polishing of the needle with chrome cleaner paste, all was well and so I put the old injector back on the engine and have kept the replacement as a spare.

Very happy with the 2525 so far though, despite these minor setbacks.

Hi Sweden-Art

Short term fix was to bypass the contact switch on the right hand gear change selector. Unscrewed the panel that the gear lever sticks out of and behind it I could then reach a push fit wiring connector block connecting the sensor switch into the wiring loom. Bridged the wiring loom side of the plug with a bent piece of welding rod and that solved the starter motor problem.

Not the safest of fixes as it meant you could start the tractor in gear, so as soon as my dealer sent the replacement switch, I swapped out the faulty one.

Since my previous post, I have had another injector failure. Again the dealer was great and sent two new replacements, so I now have another new one as a spare in case the third one packs up.

I have tracked the internal injector nozzle and body component down to what I think is a Bosch number 9 432 610 012 or Zexel 105000-1130.
So if any of the replacement Chinese ones stop working, I will order a Bosch replacement and see if it does any better. They are 」9 each from a UK supplier on the internet.
