Let it Idle, or Shut \'er Down?

My brother and I are having the age-old discussion - should I let my 955 idle when I'm not working with it (for say 15 - 30 minutes), or shut it off and re-start it?

What say you?

Good policy to never get involved in Family discussions.

Leave it on. Half a cup of fuel is a small price to pay to keep everything copacetic.

Shut 'er Down. Long periods of idling does a diesel more harm than good.

LOL, good advice /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I run mine so little I let it idle for 10-15 minutes. Longer than that I shut it down.

I USED to let her run but after reading multiple posts here at the TBN site I now shut her down. I would rather wear out a starter I guess then add the extra wear and tear on the engine idiling for extended periods......

I'm with BillyP on this one. Shut'er down. The new diesels start so easily now that there is no reason to keep them idling.

OK - U N C L E!

From My 4310 Manual:

Idling the Engine
NOTE: Allowing engine to idle for long periods of time will waste fuel and cause carbon build-up.

I'll choose tha beating over detention....
