Not sure. I have only used the nozzle dip. I would try to minimize getting the spray right in the joint to be welded. I have used the nozzle dip to keep spatter off of my clamps and fixtures. I just rub it on with my finger.

Just a trick, for avoiding spatter/ bb's you can smoke the area with an acetylene flame. Light torch and just turn it black. Keeps spatter from sticking, repeat as needed. An old hand showed me to keep pipe threads clean next to weld joint. I have used Pam, spray, and dip. Mostly I keep my stick out consistent and clean nozzle as needed. Address any splatter with swipe of chipping hammer. I am no fab shop production welder though.

Many people spray anti spatter onto the weld area to prevent ot help keep spatter from sticking. yes it works.
