( I'm trying to cut into the ground going forward with a slight downward angle on the bucket and then level the area by draggin the bucket in reverse over the same ground )

Cut in foward with a downward angle and carefully level the bucket while continuing foward until the bucket is full. then use a slight upward angle to scoop the loose dirt and dump. when you return to your trench, lay the bucket in level and continue on. Backblade when you are done cutting to smooth in the holes, ruts, etc. and to level the fill areas. As mentioned above, fix the ripples as soon as you get them, or you'll have a mess real fast.

If all you have for smoothing is backdragging the FEL, you should be prepared to smooth in one direction and then turn 90º and smooth crosswise in the sideways direction to move material side-to-side. If you can't do that, you'll have to move material left and right by scooping, offsetting, dumping, and dragging. The technique is obvious, it's the skill and speed of operation that has a learning curve. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
