How about a Berta rotary plow?

I did some tilling again yesterday and today, and in the hard soil the tiller just isn't doing much - half the time it tries to take off, especially if it hits a root.

I just looked it up to see what that is and found this video:

It seems to me that you're trying to bite off more than a small, two-wheel tractor is going to chew. I think you want something with enough heft to force an implement through the crust on the top of your soil.

What I wound up doing was renting a dozer for a week (last week) and working all week to remove brush and ruts and holes. The ground is now somewhat smooth (much smoother than it was) and it is not as packed because running over it with the dozer with a brush rake on the blade and making turns/etc. with the dozer loosened up the soil - much of it is bare now (except for the remaining fir trees and maples and alders I left).

So now I am going to get a drag harrow to try to pull behind the Grillo to smooth it out some more. Using a tiller on the ground would take a long long time.
