For those of you with older style lift arms, how do you all control the lift arms from flopping back and hitting your tire when no implement is attached? I致e tried bungie cords, rubber straps, a short piece of 3/16s chain...and even a piece of rope. What痴 the consensus on a go-to device?

Some owners use a lift arm drawbar like this one from TSC.

Drawbar Cat Ii 26 11 Pin Ho

I am not fond of these draw bars for pulling as it is too easy to have you 3 pt raised and now you are pulling from too high and risk a rollover backwards.

Also, when used to pull a trailer, the arms wont stay down without another device.

My suggestion is to make something along the lines of the 3 pt draw bar

What you are trying to do is hold the arms in. A piece of electrical conduit with holes for hitch pins is my first suggestion. Even plastic conduit would work.

I just sacrificed my drawbar in the construction of a ballast box. I use a hook on my towbar for pulling heavy stuff. I was just wondering what other folks do as I was unhooking my back blade for the winter...and I was looking around for a piece of SOMETHING to tie the two controls arm together a bit as not to flop around and hit my tires.

I just adjust the turn buckles and use a rubber bungee cord to hold the arms together so they don't hit the tires

What ever works that suits YOU. Me, I use a rubber strap with "S" hooks.

dont know about other brand tractors but the older fords up to at least 1978 they had a bracket near the pto shaft on both sides of it. there was a hole in it for a length of chain to fasten the chain in it and then the chain connected to a bracket on each arm near the point where the round rod comes down to the arm. with the right length of chain the arms will not hit the wheels and still be able to put your 3pt tools on.
