lift arms too short?

Got it today.
I read somewhere here on TNT of someone having problems getting it on.
I am not at the farm but I read over the directions and put it together on the bench.
I can not see where someone had a problem.
One question though...It came with 4 flat washers that are not in the directions. What are they used for?
I am guessing incase I want to use them instead of the linch pin washers.

`Put the washers on the lift pins and put a Lynch Pin thru the washer hole to keep the PATS from sliding off the lift pins.
Turn the washer opposite of the picture so pin will snap completely shut on the washer

Yes I got that part, I have 6 linch pin washers and 4 flat washers. So, what do I do with the common flat washers?

I have no idea... thought at first they might be to take up slack on long pins? But you'd hate that because they'd always be sitting in the middle so the Pat's wouldn't work... i'd add them to my washer stock.
