Lifting 1,000 Gallon Propane Tank.....

Had my local propane vendor come and pump out a 50 year old 1,000 gallon tank today that is no longer legal to fill. Lucky it was the type tank with a pipe to the liquid in the bottom as there was 700 gallons still left and I get credit for the propane. Lifted the tank into their trailer with no problems using the NH T 4.75.

I phoned two local scrap yards and was told by both they do not accept propane tanks even if they know they are empty. Too much OSHA, lawyers, liability issues. My propane distributor says he knows a guy who knows a guy who knows a guy......

These tanks are quite easy to make safe. Take out all the valves etc and put it in the middle of a large field. Surround the tank with straw bales and light the bales. The heat from the bales drives all of the propane out and then you can cut it up with a torch. I have one that has had diesel in it that I need to make safe.
