My mother in law just built a house and she had them leave about 4 things of bricks. I guess they are stacked about 4 foot square and about 4 feet high. She wants me to move them. One I don't have any forks for my tractor and want to use this as a excuse to get some. Only thing is I want to make sure my tractor will lift them before I buy some. Local place has some nice ones for around $700.00. She said she would chip in and help buy them....I just don't want to get them and my little tractor not pick them up. I'm sure they pretty heavy. What everyone think?

A cubic yard of water [3x3x3] weighs near 1800#. Bricks are about twice as dense and you have over 2 cubic yards on the pallet. Few tractors will handle 4 X 1800#. Youre talking fork lift work.

Well if I remember correct there is two thing of bricks to a pallet. I am gonna look tonight. If I recall they have two rows banded and they have a place to lift with forks and there is two of them on a pallet. I will have to do some figuring.

Hmmmmmm ... If the stack is not labeled for weight ... just weigh a brick ( or a few ) and divide to get close to the total weight.

I have the same issue. I believe a pallet of bricks weigh in the neighborhood of 2400#. I don't have pallet forks either. I was thinking of cutting some channel and welding a nut under each for an eye bolt then using a chain to lift the pallet. Of course, this method allows the pallet to swing around some. Going slow and avoiding big bumps/dips is a must.

Using the 2400# estimate should help you decide if the forks and tractor is sufficient.

Good Luck. Oh yeah....Post pics (success or failure) there's lessons to be learned from both.

Sounds like what your MIL has are four full cubes of brick (they're probably not as tall as four feet). Years ago I had a fork lift operator at a masonry supply slide a full cube of 3" hollow brick into the back of a 1984 Bronco. It weighed 2000 lbs. I made it home to where I was living at the time, but very slowly. You can bet I'll never do that again with a 1/2 truck.

That is one things a guy does to entertain himself at work .If you go to a gravel pit they put a full scoop in someones pick-up. You will get two pallets of shingles at a roofing place. The brick block guy just got you with four pallets. The guy that handles it every day should be held accountable. You can lift more with your tractors rear arms. Have fun restacking the pallet.
