ToolCat 5600
Seeking the best matched grapple for ToolCat 5600 to move branch piles to centralized burn sites, load 12 ft to 16 ft logs onto firewood processor deck and log trailer, manage logs on landing, move rocks for stonewall reconstruction, grubbing new landings, trails and wildlife openings. Have considered several brands. Most are oversized with respect to width and weight for a ToolCat. Focusing on those made by Blue Diamond and Everything Attachments. Availability is limited, and manufacturing and delivery is seriously backed up. Any recommendations regarding best manufacturer or a specific grapple?

I've done what the OP suggests with a 48" SSQA grapple on a FEL with < 1k lbs lift capacity. (light for its strength) Picking up more than one 8-12" dia log at a time can be a bear. Three at a time even 4" almost requires a ground operator to guide them under the lid. It's a great sod skimmer/lifter too, not taking more bite than my CUT can 'push'. I got mine from MIE and wouldn't trade it for anything. (can you say 'custom shop'?)

IMO the narrow width is more of a boon than a handicap, and not just to keep weight down. Ya gotta balance the load to not tip the machine anyway. Less width makes it easier to tell when I get that right. Note that the lid cylinder anchorage is part of a tooth extension and well braced/supported from the back. btw, I don't recall the price. I only had to pay it once and this will be the fifth straight Summer it'll stay on until snow falls. I'll bend a loader arm before I bend/bust my grapple.

I have a 68" Jenkins grapple:
Very well built. It will take far more abuse than a Toolcat can give it. On the 68", I did have to remount the inner hose attachment points (the bobtach arms tried to crush the hoses) and tie the central hoses vertical to keep them out of trouble when curled fully back.

The company (and owner) that builds them is very responsive - sent me parts and new hoses after my toolcat smashed the first hose in the bobtach before I caught it. And I quote "if you break my grapple on a toolcat, I'll give you a new one"
