1979 Ford 1700, 2001 L3010 Kubota
Hi - I was going over to the NH dealer today, and saw a medium to light green tractor with loader behind a garage. It looked about like an old Kubota, with round headlights surrounded by sort of rounded sheetmetal and a relatively flat hood. The older Kubotas looked a bit like that. It was 4wd, I think - tall grass - and smaller than the Ford 1700 I just bought. What's light green?

My new (to me) '79 1700 has a Shibaura (sp?) 2 cyl, 3.54 x 3.94 (B&S) diesel, and I noticed the hits when I searched on the engine MFR came from this area. I also notice that NH is still using Shibaura. I like that long stroke for torque. Wish the new CUT's had 4" strokes. Tell me this is a heck of a motor, guys. It sounds good. I'd also like to know if I have to go through NH for parts, or if I could save $$$ when needed. I'm only looking at filters, etc, right now (and I'd like to convert to dry air filter, if advisable).

Light UGLY green, may have been an older Yanmar. At one time they painted theirs a pea green.

Thanks. I checked out your web site and I think it is a Yanmar.

I can help you with your plight. We have the filters and info for that engine. Can't imagine you would need an OEM part besides maintenance items but if you did Ford would be your best source. The oil bath air filter works unless you just don’t like the mess. We have canister air filter conversions for those.
Dealers always have a little Yanmar out back to do the dirty work, hehe.

Ugly? I rather like my green tractor... now if you want to talk an -odd- green.. how about zetor... their older tractors were a lime green.. or light green round headlights too.

Thanks, Buck. I think I will keep the oil bath after thinking about it for while. it seems the dust and chaff would be better handled by a wet bath filter. I like being able to clean instead of replace something, too. I'm told an engine such as this should go 3-4000 hours before needing freshening up, if not abused.

You are right on, keep the oil bath air cleaner, much cheaper to change than paper filter. I you ever get a hole in the paper filter, so long engine!
