I have enough trouble trying to remember all the English words that we use here in the states, and you suggest that I learn another language that is similar to American English, but also very different???? I don't think so, unless I am going down under, and I don't see that in my plans for a while.... When I do, I will make you one of the first people that I look up..... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I would love to know some of your lingo in the USA and i am sure it varies from state to state there just like here. For an example, even here in oz, if i was to talk about a stobie pole to someone in the eastern states they would scratch thier heads just like you will. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Vin you are right in that the expressions here change from region to region. But there is another aspect too and that is while we don't have odd names for all the things you listed, we have multiple names for the same thing. For example Vomit. I mentally made a list of about ten names before I realized I wasn't going to list them out on this site. Then you had hoon, a young idiot in a car. Again, multiple names came to mind and half of them unprintable. I realized that if I were to add another columnn to your list for the american expressions I was aware of I would have to do it as a PM.

I did find one I could add a few to that weren't in poor taste. Not sure if others use these but I sure do.

barbie - barbecue - smoking, Q'ing, burning, grilling,

Now I used it as a verb but each one can be a noun as well, just use "er" instead of "ing". And don't even get me started on beer, after thinking about that for a while I found myself at six o'clock in the morning looking to pop a cold one.

Thanks for the list, I enjoyed it.

Written two ways Just for fun /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Ask your Mate to take the ute down to the shed, tell him to ask the bloke at the desk if he has a drum of petrol for the car. Why he is there ask him to drop some fragrent balls in the dunny which is around the back of the shed. If there is any problem tell your cobber to ring me on the mobile (if you lived out back he would say dog and bone).
I will not be here tomorrow as my wife has asked me to fix the taps in the unit. After I have done that I am going to get pissed with my mum

Ask your co-worker to take the pickup down to the pole barn, tell him to ask man at the desk if he had a barrel of gas for the auto. Why he is there ask him to drop some fragrent balls in the toilet which is around the back of the pole barn. If there is any problem tell your buddy to ring me on the cell.
I will not be here tomorrow as my wife has asked me to fix the faucets in the condominium. After I have done that I am going to get drunk? with my mom
