Greetings,

Would be surprised to discover this hasn't been discussed many times but I can't figure out how to entire the search tool to find precisely the phrase I'm seeking... to the main question...

The fan belt on my GC2400 needs to be swapped out. I'm not up to dealing with the insane design decision to loop the belt around the drive shaft with my antique body, and would like to just cut it off and drop in a linked belt. I know linked belts from machine tools but have no experience with them in the fan belt role. Has anyone done this and if so, how did it work out for you? Thanks in advance.

I had a thread a while back discussing the same idea. I ended up following through with the idea. I’ve only used the machine to mow twice since then which is 3-4 hours total run time and so far so good.

My dozer has a hydraulic pump mounted to the front engine pulley. When the belt broke I put a link belt on it otherwise I would of had to remove the pump. That was at least 10 years ago. It's worked just fine.

Anyone got a quick answer to this second part of the change over? I can find no information online about the belt parameters for a Massey GC2400 fan belt... only a part number for it. Does anyone know the belt length and perhaps the "inner and outer" widths or however the v-aspect of the belt is spec'd... so I can match get a link belt that's in the ball park. Thanks in advance.

Link belts come in the same widths as standard v-belts. A-4L, B, etc.. if the wide part of your fan belt is 1/2" then it's an A-4L, if it's 5/8" then it's a B. Link belt is sold by the foot and you make up your belt length by adding or subtracting links until you get it right.

Fenner Drives makes the best Power Twist belt in my opinion but it's about $12 a foot. Harbor Freight sells a knock off that's green in color and works fine...I use it on my drill press in the shop. I sprang for the Fenner Power Twist for my triple wide belt drive on the table saw....smooth as silk.
