So do experienced people say, put welds here and there on a bolted backhoe subframe?

Or on other quasi permanent stuff normally bolted? Small enough so they can be ground away if nessessary?

i dunno what experienced people do, as i seem to have plenty of bad experiences...

if i don't want 'it' to come apart, i have loctite 242 and 290 (all i've ever needed-and, if you degrease your threads and then use 290, you may have to put the propane torch to 'it' to get it apart). if i really, really don't want 'it' to come apart, i'll drill the end of the bolt, and safety wire the thing, or use them little springy clips (like a dzhus fastener...i think that's how you spell dhzus...mebbe not)

tack welding a part together would be a last resort for me...too much trouble to take apart later. if it was meant to be permanent, then it was likely welded by the manufacturer...this is just my free opinion; your mileage may vary...:)

I'm not experienced for that matter either.
But I have welded instead of bolted some "put together" stuff out of the box because it was made that way for shipping or boxing ... nothing to do with the way it works or if it ever needs to be disassembled in the future. For example, when I bought a dump trailer it had to be assembled completely. There were flanges that needed to be bolted to the axle where, in turn, you bolt the bed to. I figure I will never need to take those flanges off the axles ... ever... so I just welded them on.

Well, Mike, I considered welding my JD loader onto my 955 permanently,
but I have since sold the tractor. I and the subsequent owner have never
saw the need to remove the loader. The QA mechanism was not tight and
gave me some problems. As for the various hoe subframes, unfortunately
they bolted in many places to cast members, so welding was out.
