Apparently I was close with the whole "deformed head" thing, close but no cigar. You guys are correct, the bird got its head chopped off and continued to live for a number of months.
I still reserve suspicion though, because I noticed that the website I visited is sponsored by Wendy's. Which follows my third rule: People will figure out a way to fool you out of your money if they can.
