Live or Die, You Vote

Moved a maple tree this weekend. Temps are hitting the 30's regularly and there was frost on the ground the last couple of days.
Take a look at the tree and root ball and let me know if you think it will live. The tree was by my barn so it had to go eventually anyway, hopefully it will provide some much needed shade if it lives.

Looks good, keep it wet and it will live and make sure you plant it same depth as it was

I may die. I think trees should be moved when they are dormant (late Jan. or Feb.).

I think it'll make it. If you haven't cut too many roots it should be alright. The sooner you get it in the ground, the better. Don't let the root ball dry out like Jim suggested. Fall isn't a bad time to move them. Soak the new hole well before planting and go for it.

It is already in the ground ( at approximately same depth as where I found it as Jimi suggested). I did dump several buckets of water on it.
Ideally I would have waited longer to do this, but when the trees are completely dormant, the times are few when the weather and my time line up.

For a tree that size, you to soak the ground REAL good and often

as long as you puddled it in, it should be fine
keep it moist all winter and it should do great.
You can transplant trees anytime of the year, although spring and fall are the best.
