Well that is simple enough. I initially thought of alcohol because our water is pretty hard here. I can get distilled water if need be. Do you know of a reason to avoid the alcohol idea?
Also you didn't mention air.... is that to be avoided with this filter? Thank you Billrog for taking the time to help.
If you use compressed air, blow from the inside out so as to not further in-bed the debris. When mine becomes fouled enough to need cleaning, other than blowing it out, I replace it
Ron I blow mine out with air as Patches described in dusty conditions on a daily bases. I think the book said not to exceed 60 psi. If you stick a light bulb in it and can't see any light out side of it either wash or replace it. It's not recommended to was more than a few times and it must be thoroughly dry before using.
