G'day

I have a problem with my tractor and hope somebody can help. My gear Shifter's busted (for the 2nd time, 1st time fixed under warranty, but now the dealer is not too interested in helping), anyway I am stuck in 4th/8th gear. apparently there is a little shear pin in there someplace. Would like to know if anybody has replaced them before and has some advice on how difficult or easy it is. On the floor there is 3 screws where the shifter connects. I am not very mechanically minded, and I am a little concerned about taking it apart without knowing what I am getting into. Any advice would be appreciated.

Cheers

I have an "04 xs also and the only "pin" I'm aware of is the roll pin that joins the two rods of the shifter. It's readily accessable.Follow the shift rod down from the bottom of the dash and you'll come to a sleeve, just above where the shift rod enters the transmission housing. Look closely and you'll find a through hole for a "roll pin" which joins the upper and lower shafts. I can't imagine you would have broken this hardened pin, but it may have simply worked its' way out :confused::confused: Have a G'day:)

We have a LK3054 in our rental fleet, so needless to say, we have replaced that little bolt more than a couple times. It takes my mechanic about 10 minutes if you have the bolt on hand. it is just over the cover where the shift rod enters the transmission. Once you see the bolt, you will want to be sure the lever is in the upper or lower shift gate before applying too much pressure to shift. I've never had a customer shear one on their tractor, only this rental unit...

Bluechip; Your roll pin must have been replaced with a bolt to expedite the repair; anything will work, even a piece of heavy gauge wire(read gas welding rod), anything to join the two shafts together ;)

Just went out looked at the tractor and pulled the gear shifter up and I see a hole which looks like it would take a 1/4 bolt but their doesn't seem anyway to access the other part short of removing the plate and I would imagine I would have to drain my hydraulic fluid to take it off. I have attached a picture with a "A" marking where I think it should have broken, and "B" where i guess is where the bolt goes that broke. It looks its going to be a expensive mechanic job to do.

I thought you were refering to pin "A"; yes it looks like you would have to drain some fluid from the sump, then remove the plate housing the lower shaft to access the area necessary for the repair :( sorry it wasn't as easy as I had thought; I'll be far more gentle with mine from now on ;) Your '04 frame/chassie is painted blue, while mine is painted gray; here we go with the colors again

Pin "A" looks like its where it is supposed to shear, after all it looks like only a 1/8 pin. I find it strange that it has broke twice at the lower pin which looks like it takes a 1/4 bolt. My frame is painted Gray. You must have wrote what you meant backwards. Quote" Your '04 frame/chassie is painted blue, while mine is painted gray; here we go with the colors again" Unquote - unless the picture just looks blue on your monitor. I will have to see if a local garage can take care of it, my kioti dealer is one hour away and he is not interested in fixing it.

Cheers

Actually in the picture it does look a little blue, it must have been because it was very overcast day, but it is gray.

Its a pretty easy repair, you have to drain down the oil, remove the side cover, install the new bolt (special bolt, order 2) and reassemble and refill the oil. I"ll admit it probably did take my guy more than 10 minutes to do all that, but less than an hour for sure, of course he had done it before. This bolt moves the shift mechanism. If the shift lever is forced while between the two gates, something will give. I havn't had the roll pin sheared
