Does anyone know how much fluid the rear industrial tire for a TC40 will hold - I am wondering how much weight is added per tire when they are filled.

Thebus,

I can't tell you to the exact pound, but a good target is about 600# additional per tire. The weight will vary based on the concentration ( if you go with calcium at a 5 pound solution ). The alternatives ( washer fluid and beet juice ) are a bit lighter in weight.

At 11 lbs/gal, Rim Guard (beet juice plus some additives) is basically the same weight as Calcium Chloride solutions. Rim Guard is heavier than some of the weaker CaCl solutions.

I believe the TC 40 industrial rear tires ar 17.5L-24 The hold 55 gal when filled to 75%. Filled with Rim Guard ("beet juice") at 11 #/gal this would be 605 lbs. I believe this would be about the same for some of the stronger CaCl solutions out there, but I don't have the exact weights for those solutions.

Here is a <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www1.uwex.edu/ces/pubs/pdf/A3401.PDF>link</A> to a pdf file which gives a very in depth look at ballast, and includes a table at the bottom which shows the amount of weight added with varying concentrations of CaCl2 in H2O in many different size tires. It lists my rear tires (18.4 x 30's) as holding 742 lbs of plain water (I have water and antifreeze which is about the same weight as plain water) per tire, and my front tires (12.4 x 24's as holding 250 lbs each. Hope I don't have to change these any time real soon./w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

The attached file is an Excel Spreadsheet saved as text.
Columms A, B and C list tire size, gallons added and approximate weight added, respectively.

For those of you who have Excel, I'll attach that file in the subsequent post

The Excel spreadsheet of the same data listed in the text attachment (previous post).

I had to "Zip" this file to post it.
The file will download to your local hard drive and you'll have to "unzip" it to read or save. Although the file was virus scanned before uploaded, always virus scan it after a down load...it's sorta like me handing you a gun and saying <font color=red>"Don't worry, it's unloaded..."</font color=red>

By the way, this data came from a web link another TBNer had posted on another forum. I don't recall the web site or the original poster, but I like to ensure he or she is recognized for their input!

I suppose that it all depends on what they are filled with. <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.tractorsmart.com/Farm_Tractor_Liquid_Tire_Ballast.htm>Here</A> is a webpage that gives tire size and weight added when filled with water.

Thanks for all of the replies and great information. I have another question. Do the boomer tires have tubes or are they tubeless?
