I've got an L5740 with the loader, and I've noticed that last couple months that the bucket has some slop in it while driving. For instance, when I hit some bump, the bucket can flop forward and backwards a little.

Additionally, it will slowly drop down even while the tractor is running. Enough that it will dump a level pallet after about 10 minutes.

I haven't done any hydraulic repairs yet - so I'm new to this aspect

Thanks!

It's fun!
Spend (now) about $200 for a kit, pipe wrench parts apart before complete removal, and repaint at the end.
If you're diligent - EZPZ.
First time, you gotta' keep track not only order but edges - rings and circle and stuff, with bevels or springs for instance.
Figure how to curl the inner seal from 'O' to 'C', and how to stretch the nylon just enough to get back on - then roll it to recover size.
It's a skill, that PAYS!

I did one at a shop, never again.
Cost just as much for a halfa** job.

no expert just did mine and did some research. My particular cylinder for y B7800 required not tools. I did heat the piston seal in 200 degree hyd. oil to soften and make it easier to install and then lightly put a hose clamp on the now loose ring to set back to shape. No tool was needed for the insertion of the gland seal BUT some will need a $30 tool to collaps the seal to install. I made a spanner for the gland nut with a hardened pin BUT it was not tight and a channel lock and some leather to protect the surface would have been enough. YOURS COULD REQUIRE MORE WORK? mine was a piece of cake. remove/loosen the gland nut while on the tractor for support.

I dont ever leave a loaded pallet lifted. I sit it down soon as I stop moving. We have six big tractors here and I don't think even the newest one will hold a load too long. Get a forklift if you need that. Tractors ain't forklifts. Mine bangs and flops too so I usually take it off when raking hay because I go as fast as I can stand it.

Is oil leaking out onto the ground? If so, defitely leaky cylinder seals. If not it's probably a leaky valve. Valves are precision machined metal on metal with no seals. So not much in the way of repair, only replacement.

The extra slop in multiple linkages on a Grand L curl can make the bucket wiggle a bit. Especially if its ballanced with the pivot under the center of mass ofvthe bucket. A really floppy bucket usually means worn seals & air getting sucked in. As air is thinner than oil you can sometimes have cylinders leaking air in but not leaking oil out.
