I am looking for a loader for my recently purchased 955. My research has told me that a 300x should fit. I would prefer the extra capacity of the 300cx, but I don't see anywhere that says it is compatible, though the hookups should be the same.

I have contacted the local JD dealer here, but they initially don't have any information and are taking their sweet time to get back in touch with me.

My tractor already has the factory joystick on it.

Do you think the 300cx will work?
Since I already have the joystick, can anyone suggest a good loader from another manufacturer that would work on the 955 and take advantage of the already installed stick and perhaps save some money. I would like to not give anything away with regards to performance or build quality.

Thanks for any suggestions/input.

I thought this was discussed already? Seems that the CX may overload the machine...

Other loader brands (there are more, but I can't remember them all):

Woods
Bushhog
Quickie
Westendorf
Koyker

No. I think you are referring to the used backhoe I was looking at before (which I ultimately decided it was ...TOO BIG). I was thinking the CX SHOULD work because the 300x does. Everyone has told me to get the 300cx over the 300x, if I was spending the money to get it new.

Thanks for the list. I will research them to see what they have available. Still not sure if already having the JD joystick helps me out when considering non-JD loaders.

I thought it was covered pretty well in THIS thread about the differences...and why JD does not recommend it.

The physical differences were covered, as well as the pricing. There hasn't been much concensus on why JD does or does not recommend it. In fact, I just had a rep call me from a dealer and tell me he would not see an issue with it.

Bottom line from what I have been told, there isn't much difference between the two ...except the extra bit of lift the 300cx provides (and the capability to use a 4-in-1 with it which I find attractive).
Not trying to irritate you or anything, just trying to get various opinions on a potential purchase.

This is also a question about other loaders which might be compatible with the 955, and isn't just specific to the pricing of the 300x vs 300cx as the post in the other forum was.

Given they are so close in performance, weight and specs, what makes you think it would overload the tractor? Most of the people I spoke with don't agree with that opinion
Also, JD docs on the loaders specify that the 300cx is recommended for the 990.

The 990 is considerably larger and has a beefier frame then the 955, so a comparison between those two isn't really applicable.
That 300cx loader may fit, but I'd suggest you limit it's lift capacity. You may not break the loader, but you may well damage the tractor.

Of course, it's your money, your tractor and your risk...

Maybe its just me, but I don't like the looks of the newer curved boom loaders on the older, boxier tractors. If it were me, I would look into one of the other brands of loaders and possibly save a bit of money as well.

the 990 tractor was considered a large frame compact, it weighed about #1,200 more than the 955. A better comparison would be the 790 / 3005. Very similar tractor chassis to the 955. Both came in at about #2,000.
