Tractor
massey ferguson 1240
Howdy folks......I have a 1240 massey ferguson (compact tractor} with front loader on it. My problem is that the hydraulic control valve for the loader is leaking badly. It is a nimco 2s-40272, and i guess it could be fixed with some o-rings i assume. I took the valve off the tractor and took the one spool out that is leaking, but when i removed it the o-rings did not appear to be where they should, they were just kind of on the spool but were not fitting in a groove they were just on but very loosely. If i had a diagram of how they are suppose to be i guess i might be able to fix it,so if any of you would happen to know about this valve and have something for me to go by i would surely appreciate it. I checked on getting a new one which is around 375.00. I hate to have to dish out that amount of money right now, my wife has got to have hip replacement surgery in about a week, and then in about 3 months have the other one replaced so i need the money for that. I am wondering if those on ebay would work for this, i am not that familiar with hydraulics. I know the nimco has 6 hoses going to it and it does have a float detent. Those on ebay are only like 65 to around a hundred bucks. I'm just not sure if they have everything on it. I really don't have to have the float if everything else worked. I really would appreciate it if someone could help....thanks

Most directional valves the O-rings just slide over the spools and are held captive by the end caps. These seals should only be exposed to tank pressure so typically under very little pressure.

does your tractor have three point hitch or rear remotes? If yes do you have to move a lever to get oil flowing to them?

yes there is a lever on the right side that moves in a cicular pattern up and down

oh, i forgot to mention that it does have 3 point hitch. These seals, do they have to be specific to the tractor or is it something that i could go to tractor supply or hardware store and pickup..thanks

Seals I suspect are standard size so should be able to get from a store that sells O-rings. Buna- N or nitrile is a common seal material Viton would also work just fine.

do the old seals seem hard or look like they have taken a set? If yes that would probably be from age along with heating and cooling cycles.
