On my 4400 there is a loader-lock lever just in front of the base of the loader control. The loader-lock lever has three positions. The lowest position is the normal operating position, the highest position locks the control and keeps the loader from moving. The middle position shows a book next to it, but my owners manual does not address this position, it just addresses the top and bottom positions.
Does anyone know the purpose of the middle position?

Thanks in advance,
Mike.

That position is what's called the
"regeneration" position for your loader
control valve.
There have been tons of posts regarding the
purpose, but in a nutshell it allows oil to flow
directly from one end of the cylinder to the other,
without the restriction of the valve,, so that
while dumping your full bucket of material you don't
get that delay that causes more questions!

Your response really confused me, as I didn't think that was what he was talking about (at all). /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif Maybe(??) the center position is to physically keep the dump mode from going into 'regen' position (far right).

I'm puzzled over the 'book' icon on the loader valve lock. The lock is to prevent someone from bumping the loader control stick causing the loader to move by 'accident'. The lock on my Deere 4300 doesn't work well, but with some encouragement, it will prevent the control stick from moving.

I'm curious about the 'book' icon in the 'center' position between lock and un-lock. Some of these icons cause me frustration as to what they mean. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif Unless there are not really three positions, but just lock and un-lock, with the explantation of the two positions 'in the book', thus the book icon. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

That is the regen function as Dutch said my 4300 had it too. You still have full range of motion while using this feature.

Thanks, I will try that sucker out tomorrow (if the 45 mph gusts don't blow me away). /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

ok,
i'll admit the middle position is the "regen" lockout.. per
Deere:

MX5208a, MX5207

Selective Control Valve (SCV) lock lever (A) allows the operator to control the type of SCV lever movement needed for a particular operation or situation. Operation of the lock lever is indicated on label (B).

· Move lock lever to the top position (C) to allow SCV lever movement in all directions. Operation of the SCV is totally unlocked.

· Move lock lever to the middle position (D) to prohibit engagement of the REGEN (regeneration) function of the SCV. This position is recommended for all attachments except for the front loader. Loader operation may benefit from the use of the REGEN function. The REGEN position is available only with lock lever in position C.

· Move lock lever to the bottom position (E) to prohibit SCV lever movement in all directions. Operation of the SCV is totally locked.

Thanks guys, I purchased a front blade last year and the guy I got it from said to use the middle position when I had the blade on. He seemed to know what he was talking about, and said that the owners manual would explain it.

I looked again, and my manual says nothing about a middle position. Regeneration valve is not in the index, and the picture in the manual shows only two positions not the three that are on the tractor.

Thanks again, you guys are what makes this site so good.
