Wow... never new what I was missing by not having a front end loader.... and to think I've had tractors for years and not had one / thought I didn't need one!!

After work yesterday, I dismantled a 10x20 and a 10x10 tarp covered tube framp that a tractor and horse trailer partially live under, and then traded out some of the tubes for longer ones, and then swapped the surplus poles over to the smaller canopy, leaving me with a 10x30 and a 10x18.. now I've got a couple tractors under complete cover, and the horse trailer covered well, instead of a nose hanging out.

The 10x20 that became a 10x30 was a tall sucker.. as it accomodates my NH 7610s .. the top side rail is at 92", and The top middle rail at maybee 12 feet or so to clear the exhaust stack. originally my wife helped me put it up.. not that it was heavy.. just hard to manage. had to rebuild it by myself yesterday though. Found my ford 660 with 1 arm loader was absolutely invaluable. For one thing.. I didn't have to use my truck or another tractor with a trailer hitch ball to move the trailer.. just picked up the tounge with the fel, and moved it. FEL was also nice for holding up rafter sections while I was up on the ladder tieing them in with sheet metal screws. ( glad i ran power out to the back of the pasture! ).

Took about 4 hours to untarp, dismantle, rebuild, retarp, and put up my tools and get the tractors and trailer moved back. I still have a few cleanup duties and a couple odd things left to do.. but the work is 98% done.

Normally, I use my 8n as my trailer tender as i have a 3pt trailer ball/tounge setup for it. So nice to back up.. raise the 3pt lift and go.. but I had the fertalizer spreader hooked up to it.. and all that was blocking the NAA in the barn as well. The 660 has a mondo cement counterweight on its 3pt.

Ironically.. now that I have the 660.. my NAA gets almost no use... :-( The 8n does the light work.. and the 660 the 'utility' stuff.. and the 7610 the heavy stuff.

oh well.. great seat time!

Soundguy,
Sounds great, one never has enough outbuildings and sheds /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
The loader on my tractor is my back. I have disc problems in my back and have done many things with my loader that I could not get done any other way. My loader is not a quick disconnect type and is a bit awkward when mowing with the tractor...Guess I will have to get another tractor /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Hey Soundguy,

I believe the green thing I sit on with an engine and tires is basically a mounting/moving system for a bucket. I couldn't get by without a FEL anymore.

Yep.. I've got the barn ad atacted garage int he pasture.. a leanto building.. a couple tap/tube frame deals.. and then the dog kennel, hog ang turkey/duck/chicken coops.

My pasture must look like a 3rd world country from an areal view!

Yep.. the extra tractor thing is great. The 1 arm front end loader is not an easy deal to take off my 660. Power steering would be nice.. but I ain't complaining! I also injuried my back last december.. and that was what prompted me to get the loader. I couldn't even lift 50# bags of feed for the animals...

I think back at the amount of work I've done with a rear scoop and boom pole. I imagine I'll hafta sell them now! ( naa.. can't sell any implements!!! )

Me too (looking back at what was done with those 2 implements).

Agreed (on not selling) although both of these implements have been sitting in the back of one of my buildings since getting a FEL and box blade.

Brian

PS. Sorry, almost forgot to mention. Sounds like a very productive day!!

I started looking for a tractor last summer and was emphatic that I did NOT need a FEL. Then my brother bought one with a loader and I used it. We laugh that he cost me an additional $3,000. It was the most productive additional purchase I could have made.

Glad to hear you found the same to be true. Nice work on relocating the sheds. I think you already realize there will be no end to the kinds of things you find to do with your loader.

Thanks for posting and reminding others how much use people can get from a FEL.

That is the neat thing about new tools. Before you get them you think that they can't be justified by their cost, and the tools you have can do the job. But once you have them then all sorts of new ideas pop into your mind!

I'm glad that you have discovered how nice and how much fun FELs can be.
