Loader Valve Problems

I have a John Deere 2550 tractor with a 175 JD loader on it. It has recently develpoed a problem with lift cylinders drifting down, even with the tractor running. I had the lift cylinders rebuilt and I have also replaces the cables that go from the joystick to the valve that is located on the outside of the frame. I am guessing all that is left is a problem in the loader valve itself. Is there any way to check without buying a new valve or having it rebuilt. Also if that is the problem what are thoughts on rebuilding vs replacing? Thanks

Those spools are fitted to a particular valve, otherwise a precision fit.

About the only rebuilding you can do is to replace some o-rings on some of the valves.

You can however replace some parts like the relief valve , and load checks.

By the time a hyd tech added parts and labor, you could probably purchase a new valve.

You could swap the boom hoses with the bucket hoses. Or if you have rear SCV(s) you could extend the boom hoses to the the rear SCV and see if that makes a difference.

Have you adjusted the cables to make sure when the lever is in a neutral, the valve spool is in neutral.

If you have good cyl on the lift arms, you can raise the lift arms up and shut off engine.

Then remove the OUT hose from the loader valve and see if any fluid is escaping from the lift cyl circuit.

If the arms drift down, you should see fluid coming from the OUT port

I have adjusted to cables and they seem to be leaving the valve in a neutral position but I will try hooking them to the rear remotes and see if that makes a difference.

Did you try to pull or push the spools without the cables attached.

You may have to go into the can on the bottom of the spool and check the nut for the centering springs, or maybe a weak spring.
