Well, I called down to the local Kubota dealer & their message says that after 56 years they are now out of business. That's a shame....they seemed to be doing fine. Is this part of the changing economic climate we keep hearing about but never seeing? If so, this is the first time I've seen it actually strike this close to home.

Wonder if someone else local will pick up the dealership? And of course I guess I ought to wonder how this will affect the balance of my warranty....not well at all is my guess. And come to think of it, I've a few parts down there that are probably lost as well. It will be interesting to see if Kubota follows up on the obligations.

The loss of a good dealer is sad. I think that your warranty will be fine. You will just have to find another dealer to take care of that. I have a dealer five miles away thats real poor. Part of a five dealer chain and no one seems to care. I wish they would go out and maybe someone would pick it up. If not nothing lost.

The Warranty is from Kubota. They are still in business. Businesses go out of business for several reasons. Some times because they haven't keep up with the times and some times just because they are tired of keeping up with the times. Some times the owner just wants to retire like other workers. Some times the job just loses it's appeal. Lots of reasons for quiting a job. Some times the headaches are not worth the pay as any owner of a business can tell you. There are days to stick it out and there are days to hang it up and it isn't always because the business isn't making a profit. Profit can bring headaches and high blood pressure and there's a point of is it worth it. Chicken one day and feathers the next.:)

The same thing happened in my area several years ago when a business had been successful for well over fifty years was eventually run into the ground by the son who took over from his parents. I lost a chain saw and a service call that was never completed. A couple of years later, another business branched out from another town and they have been great.

I live in farm country, so all Kubota dealerships carry two lines of equipment as a stand alone Kubota store couldn't survive.

Same here. This dealership carried Kubota, New Holland, Land Pride, Rhino, and ZTR. Plus specialized farm implements. I know they were selling a lot of equipment, so that's not it.

In most businesses, the client or customer list is a major piece of the business's value. Probably somebody got that and if so I'll be expecting to hear from them.

My Farm Diesel supplier closed his doors recently. He said the the new regulations and fees that he was having to pay to the government made it too expensive to stay in business. He's been there for well over 50 years and doesn't need the money anymore, it was just a way of life for him. He had a dozen or so employees, including his daughter and son in law. He was also staying in business to keep them employed, but it finally got to be too much for him, and nobody who worked for him wanted to take over. They all knew what the numbers were and the guys I spoke to said that it wasn't something they wanted to take on. Free business and it was too expensive to own. Go figure that one out!!! LOL

My father in law owned a distributorship like that dealing in diesel, farm lubricants and LP. People look at the volume of business which is in the millions without knowing the costs required and all of the government interference. He too loved the business, but the stress and long hours were just not worth it and he had other things he wanted to do so he sold it.

No longer have a Kubota Dealer in my county or several of the neighboring counties...

Probably a sign of the times...

Sure enough, regulation can be huge factor... lots of mom and pop contractors can't or don't have the business to support all the new fees...

I have 5 different agencies involved with one Hospital Onan Generator... in 1995... it was only one and now 5... all the new ones collect annual fees...

To be in business almost takes one full time employee to keep up... they even have titles like Compliance Officer...

A good friend had a successful excavating and dump truck business... strictly small operation that gave outstanding customer service... some of his equipment was older... but you would never know because it always looked like new... He ran the business, wife was the book keeper and had two long time employees... just couldn't keep ahead of all the new regs anymore.

The biggest problem by far was the mandatory retirement of his Backhoe, Excavator and Dump Truck... His equipment couldn't meet the new state diesel emission standards.

Weel, it is possible that after 56 years he finally made enough money to retire. :D

Not in this business! I've watched it go buy for years and there are three ways to get out of it.

1. You look profitable and find someone with a dream that thinks you make enough money at it and buys you out. Chances are he just won the lottery!

2. You die in the office chair.

3. Hold your hand on your a## while an auctioneer sells you out as you didn't want to change!!!!
