A local diesel mechanic thinks that he can get my 1428 to become a 1433 by somehow retuning the engine. His statement is that the displacement is the same but the fuel metering(?) is the difference. I grew up on gas 8Ns and know little about diesels other than basic maintenance. This sounds too good to be true to me. Am I missing something or should I run not walk away?

The old diesels were pretty simple to up the hp on, just turn up the amount of fuel going to the engine is the simplest way to explain it. My Ford 7710 was 87hp from the factory but the previous owner turned it up and it was putting out 120hp on the dyno. The newer motors have so much more electronics now that it is harder to up the hp on them without knowing the ins and outs of that particular tractor. Some tractors even have different injectors on the engine when you go up one model.
I personally wouldn't do it. In that hp range you really won't see much benifit at all of gaining 5hp.
