locating a piece of property from a legal description.

I was going thru some old family books and pictures and found a copy of a will from my great grandfather leaving some land to my grandfather. Thought it would be interesting to see where this property was and what it looks like now. I tried looking on the internet and I just dont understand the info enough.

The description from 1925 reads "the NE* of Sec. 33-tp 4North of Range 25WIM. in Harmon County, Oklahoma."
Not sure of the symbol after the NE. It could be a cent sign or a star.

Hoping someone can locate the spot.

This is what I find. You'll have to work out the fractions of the section, if not the whole thing.

Section 33, Township 4 North (T4N), Range 25 West (R25W) appears to be in the lower left section of this map.

What you are looking for is most likely the NE quarter of the section. After the section number the the next designation will be the quarter section then any further subdivision. A quarter section was also the standard homestead grant in the western States that were surveyed using the rectangular survey method.
Anytime you are reading a legal description start at the end and work backwards through it, the smallest subdivision is at the beginning of the description. In your case it starts with a quarter (something) then the section, if it were less than a quarter section the legal description would look more like this: The NE1/4 of SE1/4 of SECTION 34 of TWP 23 N R 10 N WM, which describes the forty acre parcel in the northeast corner of the southeast quarter of section thirty four etc.

Appears to be just Oklahoma county, not Harmon county in OK. Sorry about that.

Does your county have a GIS system? Ask your county assessor office.

Looks like Bruce has it pinpointed. The section and quarter sections are still very easy to see from the satellite view. I have no idea of what happened with the property. Never knew my grandfather to own any large parcels of land.

You may be able to find the tax assessor on line and figure out who owns it now and maybe even some title history on the property if you are interested.
