Location for oil and temp gages - YM 3000

Hi All,
Thinking I would like to add a oil pressure and temp gage to my YM 3000. I was wondering if anyone has a good location to mount the gages??? Dash area it tight, not much room. Thinking about the small automotive gages ( 1 1/2" ?? ) Only place I can see right off is to remove the idot light bar and mount the gages there in the dash, down side idot lights will be lost in the process. Any Ideas??? Pics would be nice if you can. Thanks in advance,

That is exactly what I did on my 1700. I got a set of gauges for all three idiot lights (temp, oil, charge-Sunpro 1 1/2). I removed the lights and plactic "bar" that they are mounted in, made a stainless steel base plate, and took a hole saw to drill holes were the new gauges would sit in the dash. I posted pictures of it on this forum, but I would have to figure out how to copy to this thread. I will try to figure it out and post.

Nice work!! I have a different dash, should have taken pictures when I could have. ( I'm back in CA now for the week ) Don't think I can keep the idot lights and have the gages. I was looking at a Sunpro gage kit. I know that a metric addapter kit of some sort will have to be bought, no problem. Thanks for the picture,

Are those mechanical or electrical gauges? If they are mechanical, where did you get the metric adapters? I called Sunpro and they told me the adapter kit for the mechanical gauges is part #CP7574 but nobody in my area sales it. Auto Zone is working on ordering from Sunpro but no luck, so far. They have the kit (CP7573) for the electrical gauges but they cost about 3 times more.

Those are mechanical gauges. I was just replying to another post on gauges and remembered something. I purchased the gauges and adapter kit for the oil press. from Autozone. The adapter for the water temp. I got from Advance Auto. I can not remember the the part numbers or the size of the adapters, but some of the other guys here might be able to chime in and give you the size for the water temp. I keep wanting to say 21mm, but not sure.

You must have had three individual little lights in the dash???. I would have like to mount mine like that, but my three idiot lights were mounted in a plastic piece that went in the cowl. When I removed that piece; there was a rectangular cut out left and would not have looked to good if I drilled out and mounted. Not to mention leaving a void in between the gauges. That is why I went with the stainless back plate.

I had 2 idiot lights one for the temp and one for the oil pressure. They were far enough apart to mount the three guages like I did. I like the back plate you used . The funny thing is when I removed the temp sending unit the wire was broken so I never had temp indication! But so far I have not gotten above 150 degrees will have to wait until August to get a good indication.
