I found this idea somewhere on the web a while ago. I looked and looked to find the post again to give the proper credit but I just can not find the post. The feller I copied this idea from used 3" channel.

Well, I used what I had on hand and that was some 1/8" wall tube steel from an old Reese tow bar that was just taking up space in the garage. Chain is also from the tow bar.

I welded some small nails on the bottom of the tongs to help with grip. I have not had a chance to really use these yet as all my wood is split for the winter so the pictures are just "poser" shots with an already split piece of wood. I look forward to these saving my back next spring.

The pipe over the cutting edge is only for clearing snow. It's replaced with a toothbar in the spring and the chain will hang from the teeth.

CU,
Does this look familiar? You saw it on my post a couple months back on this forum. Nice work. You'll be able to pick up bigger pieces too.

Made these out of some 3/8 X 1 inch flat stock. Forged the hook part then welded another strip on the back side to form a "T" shape. Couple of grade 8 bolts make up the teeth. Sad thing though...after I got them all done,I realized I use the tractor to run the splitter!!! Had to build another power unit.

The flat stock over the bucket teeth is for moving snow. I'll grind off the tack welds in the spring.LOL

BINGO! That's it Window Geek. Thanks so much for the post. I've had the idea in my head for a long time just could not put it all together (I guess not all that tough once ya see it but maybe I'm a bit slow). It was one of those things that I kept looking for ideas and never quite found what I had in mind until I found your post.

Anyway, I don't recall all the critera I used to look for your post but I'm glad you found mine.

Thanks again.;)

I have a old set of ice lifting tongs that would probably be stronger than the new stuff!

Yeah Mark,
Ice tongs do great as long as they're big enough to reach around. Don't ever toss them!

Call me instead. :D

Thanks to this post, I now have a pair of log tongs!

Couple of years back I purchased 2 tongs at a yard sale for a pittance.

They had replaceable teeth of a tempered material and are constructed fron HD tempered aluminum stock.
I always figured they were for moving railroad ties judging from the length of the arms.

I cut them off about 3" from the hinge, added 2 links which I fed thru a 3" tempered ring that I had laying about.
While untried as of yet (too much snow) I am positive that I have a good tool for this spring and will replace my chocker chain method of lift/dragging logs.
