Thinking about building one as a summer project.
Not even sure where to start although there are 3 attaching points on the boom already.
Going to need a hydraulic valve with 2 directions , some kind of a spool.
and a roller guide and cable

New ones are about $3000.00 must be cheaper to build one?
Any ideas or pics of your set ups.

I have a picture, but my set up is not really what you are looking for. It does work incredibly well however, and is far better than a winch mounted upon a boom. Set up this way, I can run my 150 feet of cable way back into the woods, and winch my trees to me.

That's a really nice looking setup. Is that the same winch which you use with your bulldozer?

I have a similar winch only I have the legs on mine. I could get a hitch welded to it but I would have thought that the winch and a load of wood on the trailer may be too much for the tractor and 3 pointlift.
Also I can move my boogie wheels on trailer forward to lighten the hitch weight.
May be something to look at.

Sweet set up! It looks like one of your hoses is dragging on the ground, though!

Yes sure is, but no more bulldozer; a guy is picking it up tomorrow.

Actually it is the opposite: I shifted the axle of the trailer back to put more weight ON the 3 point hitch. This allows more wood to be put on the trailer as I often haul out 10-12 foot long logs. The cantilevered action would often lift the 3 point hitch, but it is much harder to do with the axle shifted and the extra weight of the winch.

My winch had legs too, but they were forever getting fetched up on stumps, so I took them off.

Yes it is! Nice catch.

I actually only ran my log trailer this way though for a few weeks. I bought it with the "powerpack" and was waiting for it to be shipped in. I was not going to buy it, but my smart wife insisted, and was she ever smart for doing so. We use it on our Ford Explorer as much as on my dozer and tractor. Since all it takes is a pin to detach it from SUV/Tractor/Bulldozer, there is no need for hydraulics on the towing unit. At the same time it saves A LOT of hours and fuel on the tractor. It is only a 6 HP engine, so for $99 I can replace it when it wears out which is much cheaper then rebuilding the Kubota Engine, or adding hydraulics to my bulldozer.

Here is a better picture of it...with my wife making a MUCH better model than me as well. :)

Well this is what I did . There was supposed to be a bottom pulley set up but was missing when I bought the winch.
The trailer just fits great on it . I thought I would have to move the wheels forward so the 3 point could lift it but I didnt.
That trailer loaded right up with many logs 16-18 ' no problem for the 3 pth

Yes I have a mess of piled logs

The large log in the pic is poplar 12'x 12" across on small end.
Picked it up but didn't have it with a full grip slipped out drop on end then fell on the hydraulic console smashed my wrist and the log end landed on my toes.
Pics are after 7 days recovery. I am on blood thinners also.
