anyone run a hydraulic log splitter off of rear remotes on a kubota m7040 and if so did you have any problems other than having to tie the remote lever to keep oil flowing

I dont have one, so cannot comment directly, but I dont see any issues. Other than it seems like a pretty inefficient way to split wood. But I bet it makes for some fast cycle times:thumbsup:

I have and M8540 with a self canceling valve My buddy has a home made splitter that we run with my tractor it works great, i do bungee the valve because if you hit he stop at all it will kick out the valve.

I have a split fire log splitter on order with log lift that should be due in this week. They are the pioneer in dual action splitters and are made in canada they will custom build them as well i mentioned i have the log lift but i also ordered the high flow kit.
Split-Fire Sales Inc. :: 3403 Woodsplitter :: Quality Built. High Performance. Split-Fire - Your Best Choice The 3403 through my dealer was $1430 lift $500 3203 was about $1050 if i remember correctly. They are very friendly to talk to and i believe will ship direct if there is no distribution network in your area.

I use one on my JD 790. Cycle time is not fast, but I work by myself, so it's about right for me. As for inefficient, having an extra engine that doesn't get much use isn't very efficient either. All depends on individual needs! ~~ grnspot

Cycle time for a 3 pt model will be dependent on the cylinder size and hydraulic flow rate of your tractor Your JD790 pump is rated for 5.4 gallons per minute i'm guessing a full stroke for you takes probably 12 -15 seconds depending on ram size. My tractor is rated at 17.1 gpm, cycle time for the model i ordered should be about 4 seconds per stroke, since the split fire splits in both directions the return stroke should be even faster as it has less volume but less tonnage for splitting. Its Probably not the most efficient method but your right not having another motor to maintain is nice. Ironically i could replace a 9 hp gas motor for the cost of an oil change in the tractor. The deciding factor for me was considering the much slower gas equivalent split fire 3465HT base list price is $3724 or two thousand dollars more than the base price for the 3 pt model i decided I'd keep the $2000. 3 pt means its much easier for me to tell friends that no you can't borrow my splitter it mounts on a tractor and is not easily transported without a tractor and you don't have tractor :)
