Well today was a great day in the woods, me, my dad, and the Kubota./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif We cut down two 60 to 80 foot tall Eastern White pines and brought them out to our saw mill. Everything went great except for the flat tire!!/w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif Here are a few pictures.

Nice pics...I sure could use some forks on my JD...sure gets tiring to get off, snake chains around the logs and attach them to the bucket...oh well...one thing at a time!

Nice job! The logs look nice and clean. The terrian in the forest looks like it would make fast work out of the corners on the top of the cab./w3tcompact/icons/eyes.gif Be careful! Do you run a special chain to keep the chainsaw bar from jamming in the pine pitch? Hardwood people don't know these things./w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif SteveV/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Smart plan to end coat those logs. What are you going to saw out of them? and what length logs are they?
Interested in your answer to the chain question. I have not cut a lot of white pine, but of the dozen trees, never had a problem with pitch in the chain that I also use for hardwoods.

SteveV, No we use the stock chain that came with the saw. Were using a STIHL 066, I've attached a picture of my dad using the saw to drop one of the trees we got today. We don't have many problems with the pitch, other than the saws needing a good cleaning with paint thinner at the end of the day/w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

As for the cab and the branches, it's not too bad. You just have to take it easy and slow. We try to drop the trees toward the road, de-limb and top them then use the tractor to drag the trunk out to the road to be cut into smaller lenghts.

Looks like you and your dad have a good system of getting logs out.

I take it the black flies&deer flies weren't a bother..yet.
