I bought this at a auction last summer and it has been very handy so I thought I needed to make some mods. For safety when I ran it from the tractor seat I made the guard. I don't need a cable in my teeth in case something broke.
I put a chain saw holder on the guard so that it was handy.
I made up several choke chains out of some pieces of chain I had picked up for a couple bucks at a yard sale. I just bent up some rings and welded them shut and welded on some 9in long rod to help find them under the logs.

another view
The chainsaw holder was made from plywood and it holds the saw solid and safe and in a position that is easy to get to

here is the release pulley I made. It work good and makes it easier for one man to work. I used cable covered with nylon tubing to keep from scaring the trees. nylon webbing like on the commersial ones would be better but since I'm on a budget and had the cable it works.

parts I had the local high school make for the release pulley.
The pulley is made so that when the slip holders go over the pulley it releases. The pulley MUST be used upside down so the cable can fall off. Also the strap must be inline with the groove of the pulley so it pulls right.
If anyone needs more info PM me

Yes, I should have left it out in the rain today and got it washed but when it is all red and shiny I hate to take it out in the mud. I'm just like a little kid, if I see a BIG mud hole I just have to try and see if that 4x4 will work.
With that winch on I can really go in the mud. As lond as there is a tree within 165 ft of course. ha ha

<font color="blue"> Have used a logging winch for years but never heard of a release pully. What is it's function?

Just looking at the picture, I'm guessing it's used as what I call a snatch block. /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif
