long 445
Hey, I've got an older long 445 Romanian tractor with no rear lift at all. It slowly went away over a year or so with slow lifting and wouldn't hold up implements. I think I have pinpointed to the pump. When I removed the pump there was no oil at all in the pump or the lines connecting to it. I I've ordered a new pump and the filter located just before the pump. Oil did drain from it. The oil in the transmission was full. Took the rear seat off looking around and found a large screw out plug on top of rear housing. Took it out and viewed inside with flashlight. Looks like oily parts inside but no oil. Does oil go into this hole fill? Can't find a dipstick anywhere on the rear. Thanks for your replies, Ed

Boy do you need an owners manual! Tried eBay?

There won't be much oil in the lift housing as it drains down into the main case below. I think there will be a dipstick on the top right side, between the hydraulic lift line and the PTO shifter coverplate. Top of dipstick is in the form of a ring.

Dipstick should be on the right of the transmission just in front of the seat. When you put the line back on the top of the pump be real careful. These bolts are very soft and will shear in a heartbeat. I have a manual for a Long 360, 450 510. I downloaded it free but can't remember where I got it. I may be able to email you a copy. Only have dial-up and it is over 200 pages. May have to pull the hydraulics section out and only send it. Pretty sure it covers the 445. I have a universal 445 and a long 510 and most of the manual applies to both.

I have a manual I ordered online. It is the 200 page. Doesn't show anything about oil fill under the seat. Wondering if I missed something on the hydraulic fill. I assume the transmission fill is all I need. I'll be careful with pump bolts. Should I use locktite on them? Thanks for your help. Ed

Harry, Thanks for that info. I have the transmission full so I assume that is all I need. Didn't see anything in the manual on another fill in the lift housing. Just making sure before I damaged something. Do you know what the purpose is of the large threaded plug under the seat? There is also a cover plate to left of it with 3 bolts. It appears to be an inspection hole. Thanks again,Ed

I wouldn't use locktite. I just replaced the pump on the 510. Have had a heck of a time getting the top pressure line to stop leaking. The on both tractors I have the threaded plug on the right under the seat is a fill point. The transmission and hydraulics share the same fluid.

Hi Harry, It's been like 6 months since I posted and still not working. I'm hoping I can talk to you via phone to ask some questions about the 445 hydraulics. I can call if you have time. I can't find anyone in my area that works on them. Thanks a lot, Ed
