Long DTC 3oo will not stay running

I have a Long DTC 300. Ran out of diesel fuel. Refuled and purged air from fuel lines. Tractor will fire and run if igniton switch is held in start position. When switch is released engine quits. I have noticed that my fuel gage is not working. Pulled out sender assembly, not hug up and does not appear to be damaged. Is there a connection between fuel gage/assembly and ignition? Their is no connection between the fuel gauge and the starting- running of the motor. Sounds like the fuel system still has air in it. On the side of the fuel filter assembly, their is a knob. Their is three postions, on, air, and off. Turn the knob to the air postion. ( their is a bleed tube with a rubber cap on top of the fuel filter. Make sure you remove this cap so fuel can come out. You will also need a pail underneath to catch the fuel.) Run fuel until no air bubbles are present. This may take a couple trys. Move the knob to on. Run the starter and it should fire. Good luck Trac
