Tractor
Craftsman 20 HP garden tractor
Greetings to all. I've been a long-time reader of TBN and have learned much. Must admit my envy for all you "real tractor" owners, my garden tractor has served me well, but can't scratch my itch for " more " . My lot slopes to the back, nice lawn in front, rough lawn/sand/brushy wetland in back. Have done a lot of rough mowing with the 3-blade belly mower, certainly much rougher than it was meant to mow. Snowblower works great, parts are getting hard to come by . The grader blade isn't much good , no down-pressure with electric lift and even if it had down- pressure tires spin too much in my soft ,loose soil . This is why I am interested in a tracked machine . I am considering the Magnatrac RS-1000 . I've been a long-time fan of their videos and brochures. My brother in Maine bought a used Hydro 5000 Magnatrac and he loves it .They are slow, but powerful . On my small lot the small RS-1000 would get around fast enough at 3 MPH . I would get it with hydraulic front and rear lift , dozer blade, ripper, front bucket and probably rubber shoes for the tracks . Would use it to move dirt, small boulders, regular maintenance of a dirt road at edge of my property, plow snow... especially icy slush not well handled by snowblower, and eventually a rough cut tow behind mower . Anyone out there with an RS-1000 who can provide feedback ? I was originally interested in Power-Trac and in fact I rented a 425 one week-end a few years back . I liked it alot ,very rugged .Still found wheel spin a concern even with it's 4-wheel drive .I need traction! Well I've rambled on too long . Happy to be officially on-board .

Welcome to TBN!
I would imagine that a tracked machine would be pretty tough on any kind of landscape.

Hi twarr1. I'm not worried about tracks damaging landscape as it would be used mostly in my back yard where the landscape is rough natural to begin with. Expect to be working in dirt a fair amount building berms, placing rocks, some grading . With rubber track shoes it could be used on pavement pushing snow and I imagine not too bad on turf if I'm careful wiith turns .
