I ordered a 5225 cab tractor about 3 weeks ago and was waiting for the dealer to give me a delivery date.(they gave me an estimated date of 10 weeks when I ordered) I talked to the dealer today -- 12 more weeks! Nov. 29th. Very frustrating because I sold my 4310 a week ago. Dealer stated I was somewhat lucky because factory orders are backed up to almost Febuary. Just a heads up if anybody is ordering.

Wow - that is amazing. I just picked up a 5525 with a cab. I found the build sheet in the toolbox, it was build on 8/24/2005. It did not last long in inventory. I am loving it so far. What options are you getting on it?

I ordered it with MFWD, triple mid hyd. , dual rear hyd, 12/12 with 540E PTO, large R1 tires, EH hitch, moveable draft links, cold weather package. 542 loader with ATI skid steer att. and a 78" worksite pro bucket. Seemed like a good deal at 37000

I bought a 5525 MFWD dual mid and dual rear. I would have liked to have triple mid and rear, but not a big deal. 12/12 Reverser with 540E PTO, R1s (not sure of the size), EH hitch, movable draft links, no loader - $41K

I would have liked to get more horsepower but it just wouldn't fit in my budget. I test drove a 5525 cab and loved it! Later, I tried a 5225 isolated platform and was suprised how well this tractor performed at 56 hp. So, I guess I can say a had to sacrifice HP for a cab. I mow about 20 acres(mostly flat) so I am planning on running a mx6 or mx8 mower. the dealer said it should handle it with no problems. Planning on timbering another 35 acres this winter using this tractor to skid logs with a Farmi winch. This is my first utility tractor and first cab. I'm actually hoping we have alot of snow/cold this winter! mike

MX6 will be no problem at all, I am running the one off my 4720 right now. My HX-15 is being delivered tomorrow. The nice thing about the MX-6 is that if the tractor fits, the MX-6 will not have any problems fitting.

I hear you about the weather. I want to make myself feel good about my recent purchase also.

With what you are planning to do, I don't think you will miss the additional power.

I looked into the 5425 tractor and compared it with the 4720, while there's no direct comparison between the two, the 5x25 series is much larger; I couldn't help but notice that there's a huge gap between the 71.5 inch wheelbase of the 4720 and the 85.7 inch of the 5425. That's a pretty big jump in size.

Does Deere make a model that's comparable in design features to both of these, that falls in between the two size wise?

I could not find one inbetween. That is the reason I went with the 4720 for my 20 acres. When we added an addition 160 - I decided to add the 5525. I could probably do everything wiht the 5525, but their are things that are better about the 4720. It is more nimble (turns quicker, shorter wheelbase, etc). The HST trans is nice for front end loader work and doing close up work around the house, etc. I like both tractors a lot, they both do some things better than the other.

Now, with that being said If I knew I was going to get the 5525 I would have probably downsized some on the power and looked at a 4120 or so. I was thinking I would bale square bales with my 4720 but now my 5525 can do that.

I'm actually thinking a 5425 and something smaller than a 4x20 series, with a small backhoe on that. Maybe a 790, or something else in the 25-30 hp range. My main use for a backhoe will be stump removal, root breaking for the same or tree removal, and for the odd trench or footing dig. I do think I have use for the power available in the 5x25 size machines, and the wider track will help.

I only have 11 acres, so far, but it's all on a hill side. I will be creating terraces for planting some crops. Here's the topo of the land, north is up:

My house is near the center of the property, with rather steep terrain with the stream flowing nearest the road, on the right (east) side of the photo. The isogonic lines are at 4 foot elevation changes. We'll be clearing and damming the stream for a pond, that'll be north of the pond visible on the neighbor's land.

All work needing some power and stability, if I've learned the lessons TBN correctly.

What do you think?

I would think that you could use a big tractor and a ground hugging power trac. The Power Trac can be bought with an extra wide set of wheels for stability on the hill sides. It really looks like you have some steep stuff. What do your neighbors use? Do you have tractor experience? Tractors can be tipped over on steep slopes quite easily.
