Longer distance wireless light switch

Now that surprises me it works. Perhaps both buildings are on the same transformer. I doubt it would work if they weren't.

Both buildings are on the same transformer and I am also surprised it works considering the route the X10 signal has to travel.

Glad you found a solution. I've written here before about x10 automation of my barn, which is 500' from the house. Besides exterior and interior lighting, I use it to turn on my engine block heater in the winter. x10 has worked very well for me for over 25 years, but not for others. The great news is that there are solutions out there that aren't expensive.

I did a google search with a "home automation" keyword and came up with a good review of a long distance wireless light switch. I don't know if you are familiar with Zensys Z-Wave but I think it is much better than the above recommendation of the X10 controls. By the way, here is the link of what I've found: Review of the Zensys Zwave wireless control..

Welcome to TBN! Z-Wave uses a short-range radio network as opposed to a power line carrier like X-10. I have both in my home automation setup and although Z-Wave is more reliable than X-10 for many, Z-Wave has real range limitations. My detached garage/workshop is less than a 100' from my house and I can't get a reliable Z-Wave connection. While I have been slowing converting my house lights to Z-Wave from X-10, there are many applications where I'm having to stick with X-10 or find other alternatives.
