About to pull the pin on 37 heavily wooded acres west of calgary. I would hire a local logging company to do the felling/clearing of aprox 20-25 acres which I plan on putting about 20 acres in hay and 2-4 acres into a tree farm.
There is an average annual snowfall of around 2.5 meters, so a plow or blower will be absolute necessity due to the 500 meter driveway as will a box blade/landplane to maintain it till I can get it asphalted in a couple years time.
The wife is keen on having a dozen or more alpaca and a few horses(hence the hay). There is next to no manicured lawn at the moment, just along the driveway, so thats not a major consideration.
I've narrowed my selection down to a Massey 1648/52 or a Mahindra 5010. Both tractors will have to be Cab/Hydro, as I'm usually gone working in the winters and the Mrs will have to run it during heavy snowfalls if I'm not around.
I priced out both and while there is about 6k difference, 39k for the 1648 massey and 33k for the mahindra both with front loaders, the closest mahindra dealer at the moment is about a 4 hr drive compared to about 1hr to a couple massey dealers.
Also trying to find new 2012 stock without the pollution crap on it.
What is everyones thoughts on the MF 1648 vs 1652 as far as the engine bump goes. Its almost 2 grand more, so I'm thinking the 1648 would be just fine and prolly get better fuel consumption than the bigger 1652.
As I've been unable to find either the 1600 series massey or mahindra with a cab nearby to sit in, I'm curious about leg room. I'm about 6'5" and run around 280-300lbs
Any thoughts?
